What Happens in One Piece Chapter 1090?
Chapter 1090 starts out strong by switching the focus back to the Straw Hat Pirates after all this time away. The previous chapters have been so busy exploring the fallout of Wano’s events and the Reverie. Now, the Straw Hats are still surrounded on Egghead Island, but hold York as a bargaining chip for their own. This is wild to see because Luffy’s never been one to take hostages, but now he’s an Emperor so anything goes. Big News Morgans’ prediction is slowly coming true.
While they’re all cooped up in Egghead Island’s Labosphere, Sentomaru has been holding off Kizaru down below. Every Pacifista is programmed to protect the Straw Hat Pirates, and they’re going to fight until they’re scrap metal. Not only that, but they’ve managed to capture the Seraphim and turn Franky back from stone with the others. A lot has happened while everyone was focused elsewhere in the world!
Escape From Egghead Island
Time at Egghead seems to be nearing an end, as the Straw Hats finally have an escape plan in mind. They’ve got Jewelry Bonney and Vegapunk in tow as well, and they’ll need to take the Stella with them somehow. The good news is that the Thousand Sunny was already brought to the Labosphere by the Vegaforce at the arc’s beginning. The plan they hatch for their Egghead Island escape isn’t the safest, but considering the situation it will lead to the least confrontation.
The Vegaforce will fly the Thousand Sunny, containing the Straw Hats, Vegapunk, and Bonney, over the Navy blockade. Then, once the Vegaforce is out of range of the island, it will power off, while the Thousand Sunny lets a Coup de Vent loose. This will propel them far enough over the Navy ships to evade the majority of the fighters, and be the quickest escape route with the least fights.
Will Vegapunk Survive?
At this point, it isn’t a question of if Vegapunk survives, but which Vegapunk survives. The genius has split his mind among multiple different robots, and his original body with a massive databank called the Stella. It’s not the most practical method for evacuating a genius scientist the government wants dead, but not everything is easy. Right now Shaka and Pythagoras are both dead, and Edison is barely hanging on. York is a captive of the Straw Hats, likely to either die or weasel out to the Navy somehow. Meanwhile Lilith is still with the group piloting Vegaforce. Only one of the Vegapunks will likely be left standing by the end, and Lilith is probably the safe bet.
Straw Hat Bonding
One thing that’s really nice to have back is every Straw Hat together again. It feels like everyone has been separate for so long the chemistry between crewmates hasn’t been as prevalent. When they’re all stuck and York makes a comment about Ohara though, Nami immediately gets the claws out for Robin. Robin is also freshly recovering from injuries, covered in bandages thanks to Chopper, who she compliments for saving her life. Chopper’s bashful reactions will never get old when someone compliments him, insulting and thanking them at the same time.
Jewelry Bonney is falling in surprisingly well too, and might just be the girl for Sanji from her comments this chapter. The only woman Worst Generation member finds it really great that Sanji can fight and cook. Those two trains align perfectly with her two favorite interests as an angry glutton.
What is Rob Lucci Doing?
Once a secret agent, always a secret agent, apparently. Rob Lucci isn’t even letting Kaku in on his secret, but he’s sending info back to Jay Garcia Saturn of the Gorosei. Still, Saturn makes a point to Kizaru that human lives are expendable and no more than trash when it concerns their goals. To think that they would go so far as to sacrifice the head of Cipher Pol 0 isn’t surprising after the hit on Vegapunk though.
The curious thing will be if Lucci is giving them correct information or misleading them into something. Obviously, nobody knows what info he relays, but there’s a possibility he’s feeding false intel. Would be quite the twist for Lucci to end up invested in discovering what the Void Century is despite his mission and World Government status.
Kizaru’s Code of Honor
The last chapter showed a Kizaru indifferent to his place in everything. He’s just a cog in the machine of the World Government, and all he can do is keep turning. It makes sense that he wouldn’t worry about killing Sentomaru then, but he wants to do things the right way. Kizaru straight up persuades the Gorosei to be honorable, saying he wants to do things by the book because of his relationship with Sentomaru and Vegapunk. It’s just a strange turn of things after his speech in the last chapter.
Why Does S-Snake Help the Straw Hats?
Talk about an interesting dynamic here. S-Snake, the clone of Boa Hancock that the Navy programs as advanced Pacifistas, shares more than Hancock’s looks and powers. The clone also shares Hancock’s affinity for Luffy and will do whatever he asks of her with no argument. It’s kind of adorable, and they use it to turn back everyone who was stone. Plus they trap the other Seraphim in sea-prism bubbles. Vegapunk notes that there are interesting things to be studied from bloodline traits in clones. So this will likely play a part in the other Seraphim later. It has to be weird for Jimbei to fight his kid self though.
When Does One Piece Chapter 1091 Release?
One Piece just came back from a two-week break, and the bad news is that another one starts now. Chapter 1091 isn’t due for release until September 3rd, a whole two weeks away. It’s a cruel thing to do with how scarce One Piece has been for the past couple months, but it’s understandable. Creator Eichiro Oda recently had eye surgery which required a month’s break, so it will take a little time to get back into things.
In the meantime, the One Piece live-action series will debut on Netflix on August 31, just in time to wait out the last few days before a new chapter! Early reviews are coming in great, and Oda has nothing but praise.
The Straw Hats Go To Elbaph!
The next destination the Straw Hats have in their sights is the Island of Giants, Elbaph! They’re taking off to the only remaining arrow on the Log Pose, which is Usopp’s dream destination. This place has been teased since the Little Garden arc, and there’s sure to be a fun reunion with Dorry and Broggy in store. The real question is whether or not Shanks will still be there by the time the Straw Hats arrive. He made his intent to find the One Piece crystal clear when he sank Eustass Kid a few chapters ago. It remains to be seen if he’s already left on that journey though.
Until Chapter 1091 releases, catch up on previous arcs of One Piece with reviews and explainers. One Piece is inching ever closer toward the Grand Line’s end at Laughtale, and nothing is stopping the Straw Hats. Now, Luffy is going to become King of the Pirates no matter what, and take down any who stand in his way!
One Piece is available to stream on Netflix, Crunchyroll, and Funimation. New episodes simulcast with Japan every Saturday at 10 pm EST in subtitle format.
