Jujutsu Kaisen comes back on July 6 with season two and plenty of new characters to shake things up. The Star Plasma Arc starts the season off with a bang, with Gojo and Geto as students at Jujutsu High. Their mission to protect Riko, the current Star Plasma Vessel, and they’re falling out.
So, with new characters introduced and others that haven’t fought on screen before, who stands as the strongest? Will the Sorcerers come out on top against the alliance of Curses that threaten the world? Or will the evil of Sukuna finally free itself to wreak havoc on Curse and humans alike?
Fushiguro Megumi
- Who: Jujutsu High First Year
- Cursed Technique: Cursed Shadow Technique
- Strengths: Hand to Hand, Cursed Energy
Sure, Megumi seems like a standoff with an uncaring attitude toward most things. He truly does care about his friends and those around him, and he’ll save people no matter what if possible. His powers have grown massively throughout the series, even earning him a promotion to Grade 2 Sorcerer along with Yuji.
Megumi has the advantage of massive strength in every aspect, from his cursed energy to physical prowess. He’s an excellent tactician, using his Domain Expansion to rip one of Sukuna’s fingers right from a Curse’s body. Interestingly, Sukuna has an eye on Megumi, killing Yuji right in front of him for some mysterious plan.
Fushiguro Toji
- Who: Megumi’s Father, an Outcast of the Zenin Clan
- Cursed Technique: None
- Strength: Incredibly powerful physically.
Toji only gets the edge over his son thanks to his years of experience and merciless tactics in fights. Killed at the end of the Star Plasma Vessel arc, his soul was brought back during the Shibuya Incident. Toji takes no prisoners, his lack of cursed energy used to assassinate sorcerers that could easily destroy him otherwise.
He’s the rare Jujutsu sorcerer who has no cursed energy, instead relying on brute force, tactics, and cursed tools. Toji even makes a switch in alliances during the Shibuya Incident, managing to land a final blow on Dagon. It doesn’t last long, but he gets to briefly meet his son again.
Aoi Todo
- Who: Jujutsu High Second Year
- Cursed Technique: Boogie-Woogie
- Strength: Physically strong, Cursed Energy Average
His strange introduction was definitely something, Todo beginning every fight asking what kind of woman is the opponent’s type. That served to only throw audiences off from his good-natured attitude and growing respect for Yuji as his “brother”. While he’s certainly eccentric, he’s an accomplished sorcerer with a strong cursed technique to match.
His Boogie-Woogie technique allows him to change places with anyone or anything that has cursed energy. He uses it to great effect when he and Yuji faced off against Hanami in the Goodwill Event arc. Switching places, plus foresight to keep his technique secret, allowed him to deal a massive surprise blow. While his fight against Mahito won’t go nearly as easy, Todo does bring one gives even him a challenge.
Suguru Geto
- Who: Former Jujutsu High Student alongside Gojo.
- Cursed Technique: Cursed Spirit Manipulation
- Strength: Massively Powerful, even giving Gojo a fight.
Suguru Geto is the former best friend of Satoru Gojo, and current co-leader of Mahito’s group of Curses. He allows the Curses to do the fighting usually, his own motivations in the current story are unclear. Geto is hiding massive power with his rare technique of Cursed Spirit Manipulation and incredible cunning.
Cursed Spirit Manipulation allows him to capture and summon spirits to aid him in battle. The sorcerer proves himself more than capable of capturing some of the stronger Cursed Spirits to appear. He has a massive reveal in the Shibuya Incident that’s one of the most destructive seen yet.
Okkotsu Yuta
- Who: Jujutsu High Second Year
- Cursed Technique: Copy
- Strength: Potential to surpass Gojo
Yuta was the original protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen when it started with Jujutsu Kaisen 0. Although he started terrified and alone, he’s since learned to control Rika and his massive cursed energy reserves. Now he’s a deadly foe for any Curse or sorcerer that tries to fight him.
Copy gives him the unique ability to use his friends’ or opponents’ Cursed Techniques himself, whether near or far. The addition of a partner in Rika, his Curse companion, makes most fights into an automatic two versus one scenario. Yuta is a proficient swordsman and tactician. Gojo even notes on several occasions that Yuta could possibly be stronger than him one day.
Dagon
- Who: Cursed Spirit
- Cursed Technique: Disaster Tides
- Strength: Special Grade Curse
Dagon is the more docile of all the cursed spirits in Geto’s group. His appearance in the anime has been more like a cute octopus mascot for the villains than anything else. During the Shibuya Incident he evolves from an infant Curse Womb into his fully evolved Curse. He takes on all the strength and fury of the Earth’s oceans, creating tides to rage through subway tunnels.
His power to summon and manipulate water is already deadly, especially in the confines of the Shibuya Station. His Domain Expansion is essentially a death sentence, manifesting a tropical island where Dagon’s fish shikigami quickly tear foes apart. While he’s a powerful Curse, it takes a combined effort and last-minute save by Toji to truly take him down. He’s one of the most fierce villains in the series. Also, he looks like Cthulhu which is just badass.
Jogo
- Who: Curse Spirit
- Cursed Technique: Disaster Flames
- Strength: Special Grade Curse
Jogo looks like someone put a volcano on the head of Mike Wazowski from Monsters, Inc. That doesn’t make him weak though, as the volcano on his head is very much real. Worse, it allows him to spew massive flames, and cause humans to spontaneously combust just by being near his technique. While he seems to always be on the bad end of luck, having his head cut off by Gojo most recently put him out of commission for a while as his body grew back.
His reserves of curse energy and massive strength in both physical and technical aspects make him a terrifying fight though. While Gojo made quick work of him, the Shibuya Incident saw him easily kill the head of the Zenin clan while heavily injuring Nanami and Maki at the same time, and that was just with his cursed technique. His Domain Expansion is even more deadly, transporting his enemies directly into an active volcano.
Mahito
- Who: Special Grade Curse
- Cursed Technique: Idle Transfiguration
- Strength: Deadly, and doesn’t care who he kills.
Oh, Mahito. The Curse self-described as being born from human hatred is one of the most vile Curses to exist in Jujutsu Kaisen, making his mark early by corrupting and murdering Junpei while Itadori was forced to watch helplessly. Mahito only really cares about his fellow curses, but even then it’s more because they’re useful to him than actual friends. An immature personality and poor temper don’t help things in fights, often leading to unnecessary sadism from him.
Mahito’s Cursed Technique is deadly, with his ability to reshape the soul of anything affecting physical bodies as well. He uses this sadistically, turning people into small. cursed shells that he uses as tools in battle, causing them to grow and form stronger curses that fight his opponents. His Domain Expansion bypasses his Technique’s greatest weakness, allowing him to connect with souls within the domain without the need to physically touch them.
Ryomen Sukuna
- Who: Ancient Sorcerer
- Cursed Technique: Dismantle and Cleave
- Strength: King of Curses
Sukuna has been neck in neck with Gojo since their debuts in the series, each being the strongest living sorcerers in their respective lifetimes. He does have the disadvantage in the present story of his powers being split into twenty fingers scattered throughout the country. Even then, he was still more powerful than most with only one finger. Sukuna is the worst kind of powerful, too. The kind that has no regard for consequences or destruction, completely fine with destroying all under his feet.
While his main cursed techniques of Cleave and Dismantle are effective, allowing him to invisibly slice and slash through enemies and structures, his Domain Expansion is the true terror. While it hasn’t been completely shown as of yet, only briefly being pulled on Itadori, Malevolent Shrine summons a massive skull temple, with only one way out and an almost guaranteed hit by Sukuna before the opponent knows what’s happening.
Satoru Gojo
- Who: Special Grade Sorcerer,
- Cursed Technique: Limitless
- Strength: There are prophecies about him.
Okay, Gojo might not show his actual power very often, preferring to be lazy or just rude to his opponents before easily dispatching them, but the few shows of his true power have been mind-blowingly destructive. He might seem like a carefree jokester, but for anyone that slights Gojo or his friends, he has Limitless power to make them regret it.
Gojo is an interesting case because of the sheer amount of power he wields, with Limitless just being his default innate technique. Able to slow enemies to the point where they can’t touch him, he’s also able to use the cursed energy of Limitless in massive orbs of destruction wherever he pleases. His possession of Reverse Cursed Technique allowing him to heal, as well as his Domain Expansion of Unlimited Void and special trait of the Six Eyes, make him one of the most dangerous sorcerers a Curse could have the misfortune of meeting.
These are the strongest characters going into the Star Plasma Vessel arc that serves as the first part of Jujutsu Kaisen season two, but that doesn’t mean things can’t change in the future. With the anime due to move into the Shibuya Incident after Star Plasma Vessel ends, fans are in for plenty of fights and feelings as the Jujutsu world will be changed forever.
